D eutsch

Portraits stitch for stitch

This Saturday is the turn of another extraordinary artist, this time in the textile field. She is Cayce Zavaglia, from the United States, although she grew up in Australia. Today she lives in New York and makes exhibitions in different American cities, as well as she is present there in important Art Galleries.

She focuses exclusively on portraits, that she creates by embroidering them by hand with cotton and silk threads. Her models she always choose from her family environment and friends, they can be children, adults or the elderly.

When you see the work from a distance, you think that it is a hyperrealistic painting, but when you come closer you realize what kind of material it is and how it has been created.

She masters the technique like no other, for having spent many years experimenting. She mixes new colors with threads of all kinds and shades and thus gets the result that resembles that of classical painting. This creates the illusion of depth and volume. The same can be said of the realistic effect of the flesh, hair and fabric of the clothes.

Her pieces are so realistic, that it is hard to believe that the base material is textile. They are incredible works of art. But here on her website you can see more: www.caycezavaglia.com

Last Saturday we presented the photography of Africa collectively, showing photographers of the Unsplash images platform.
